Herbs are plants with savoury or aromatic properties that are used for flavouring and garnishing food, for medicinal purposes, or for fragrances; excluding vegetables and other plants consumed for macronutrients. Herbs commonly refers to the leafy green or flowering parts of a plant which are either fresh or dried, while spices are usually dried and produced from other parts of the plant, including seeds, bark, roots and fruits.

There are various health benefits of herbs.


1. Cinnamon:

Cinnamon not only lowers blood sugar levels but also has a powerful Anti-Diabetic effect. Cinnamon is made from the inner bark of trees which are scientifically known as Cinnamomum. There are two main types of cinnamon.


· Ceylon cinnamon: Also known by "true" cinnamon.

· Cassia cinnamon: Most commonly used today and what people generally refer to as "cinnamon."

Cinnamon has potent antioxidant activity, which helps in fighting inflammation and has been shown to lower cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. Research have shown that cinnamon can lower fasting blood sugars by 10-29% in diabetic patients, which is a significant amount.


2. Turmeric:

Turmeric has Powerful Anti-Inflammatory Effects.

Turmeric gives curry its yellow colour. Turmeric has curcumin, a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory effects. Turmeric can improve brain function, fight Alzheimer's, reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer, and relieve arthritis.

3. Ginger:

Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and can treat nausea.

Ginger is used to ease nausea and motion sickness. As per research ginger can relieve nausea which is caused by pregnancy or chemotherapy. Other areas under investigation are in surgery and for nausea caused by motion. Reported side effects include bloating, gas, heartburn, and nausea.

4. Garlic:

Garlic is known for lowering cholesterol and blood pressure.

Garlic has antimicrobial effects. German research results on garlic's cholesterol-lowering effect that have been distorted for a positive effect, the FDA says. Researchers are currently searching garlic's possible role in preventing cancer. The FDA considers garlic safe. It should not be used with warfarin, because large amounts of garlic may affect clotting. Due to the same reason, large amounts of garlic should not be taken before dental procedures or surgery.

5. Fenugreek:

Fenugreek improves blood sugar control.

Fenugreek has been shown to improve the function of insulin, leading to significant reductions in blood sugar levels. Fenugreek was most widely used in Ayurveda to enhance libido and masculinity. Generally its effects on testosterone levels are inconclusive, fenugreek do have beneficial effects on blood sugar. It contains the plant protein 4-hydroxyisoleucine, which helps to improve the function of the hormone insulin. Many human studies have shown that at least 1 gram of fenugreek extract per day can lower blood sugar levels, particularly in diabetic patients.
